The Hotel at the End of Time

Image
This is the first installment of the Hotel series and my first read from this author. I am hooked. I thoroughly enjoyed the author's ability to mix suspense and humor without skipping a beat. I wouldn't necessarily categorize this as a horror, but it was thrilling! The main characters were a pleasure to follow, each unique and fleshed out. The villain was interesting and posed an adequate challenge, keeping the story engaging and fun. I enjoyed the plot and all its turns. Some of the character actions seemed unusual and irrational. That occasionally took me out of the story. I also wouldn't call this so much a "horror" story as a fantasy, but it was still enjoyable and something I would like to follow. I definitely intent to read more from the author and will likely recommend this book to friends. 4/5 stars Description from Publisher Life, since the Hotel, came in heartbeats Vain is the only person to ever escape from the Hotel at the end of time. The Liar of Red Valley

Image
If you're looking for a book that dives into generational obligations (and some might say curses), with a lot of spooky aspects and a bit of mystery, this is the book for you. There's significant plot twits and fit well with the story and pace. I thoroughly enjoyed this read. The main character is quick witted and strong willed, a pleasure to read. Each character had a unique personality that felt natural within this world. I was drawn in from the first sentence and managed to finish this in just over 2 days. This is one book I'll be recommending to my peers if not buying it for them as a gift! 4.5/5 Stars Description from Publisher: Do not trust the Liar. Do not go in the River. Do not cross the King. In Red Valley, California, you follow the rules if you want to stay alive. But even that isn’t enough to protect Sadie now that she’s unexpectedly become the Liar: the keeper and maker of Red Valley’s many secrets. In a town like this, friendships are hard-won and bad bloo

Howls from HELL

If you're looking for short stories that make your skin crawl or have you constantly looking over your shoulder, this is the book for you. A plethora of talented writers came together to bring horror to you in short stories that will stick with you, haunting your dreams. A great book for those who love horror and looking for short stories to read, vs a long time consuming tale. The various authors clearly have skill in bringing out ones greatest fears in horror. Each story is a very different flavor and worth this lovely taste. 3.5/5 Stars Description from publisher: Spacefaring researchers disturb an ancient horror. An enchanted object curses a grieving widow. A haunted reel torments a film student. A murder trial hinges on a chilling testimony. In Howls From Hell, sixteen emerging horror writers pave the way for the future of the genre. Fans of dark and macabre fiction will savor this exhibition of all-original tales born from one of the fastest-growing horror communities in the

"The Long Game" Review

Image
Today I'm reviewing Simon Rowell's "The Long Game" I'll add the synopsis to the end if you'd like to learn more. This book is an excellent option for anyone who loves a good mystery and a satisfying twist. The main character, an Australian Police Officer with a complicated past, is someone likable from the start. Her relationship with her closest partner, a Labrador that acts as her support animal, is something to fall in love with. I found this book very engaging and I managed to finish it in two days as I couldn't put it down. I'm not terribly familiar with Australian law and police culture, but it was an interesting inside perspective on crime solving and personal dynamics between co-workers. Each character had their own unique personality and you either liked or disliked them for valid reasons.  The crime itself was interesting. The book goes into it directly, and then expands as you read along. It was complex enough to keep you pulled in, with a

Returning with some Reads

It's been some time since I've posted on this blog, but I think I'm going to bring it back. I figure I would use this space for book reviews, as I've been using my private Instagram to do it thus far. I'll still add some journey stories in there, but adventures with books are journeys themselves. I'm excited to get started and share my reads with the world.
